Ryan Arbuthnot Gets Strong 13th Place Finish in Small Block Modified Debut at Merrittville Speedway; Brockville Practice Coming Up Next

When the Arbuthnot Racing team left the Renfrew, Ontario home last weekend, they knew it was going to be a challenging weekend, going to a track they have only been at one previous time, in a division that they have never competed in.  That was the situation this past weekend as Ryan Arbuthnot made the six hour haul to Merrittville Speedway. It was a struggle early, as a poor draw coming through the pit gate resulted in a starting spot at the rear of his qualifying heat race.  Arbuthnot was unable to gain much ground, and would have to qualify through the last chance consolation race.  Despite the lack of experience at the track, Ryan was able to get the car much better, and finished the race in second place, earning the 20th place starting spot for the 35 lap main event.  Ryan ran a strong race, against a very competitive group of cars, many with years of experience at Merrittville Speedway, and brought the car home with an impressive 13th place finish. “We are pretty happy with that for our first 358 race”, says Arbuthnot.  “This is a tough track and a very tough field of cars.  We will build on this and plan to be back here in a few weeks with the DIRTcar Series”. On the way back home from Merrittville on Sunday, Arbuthnot stopped in at Brighton Speedway for some practice laps.  The car was fast throughout the day.  Arbuthnot will return to Brighton in September as part of their Applefest Weekend events.  Steve Arbuthnot was also at Brighton, turning some laps in his Vintage Modified that they have been working on over the winter. Arbuthnot does plan to make the trip to Merrittville once again on Monday, May 20th for a Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified series race.  This weekend, they will have their second car on the track, trying to get it dialed in at the Brockville Speedway practice session on Saturday.  They 2013 season opens at Brockville on Saturday, May 11th.
